DrmBt is the audio and visual design output of Vincent Theodore, a Chicago based artist, musician, DJ and Producer. Working alone or with collaborators, it is the aim of DrmBt to provide a challenging encounter at the point of experience, engaging an audience through liminal content and sub-liminal texture.
Exploring the intersection of video, light, and sound, Vincent works with traditional and electronic instruments, DJ and controllerist processes, DMX and MIDI protocols, and projections to create unique visual/acoustic textures, dance music, and video mapped environments.
This web portal is home to the network of projects, collaborators, events and portfolio work under the DreamBait umbrella. This includes Vincent's various musical endeavors and design work, the live event production and curation of Canvas Chicago, the home of Shivaree Studios -Dreambait's audio production arm, and access to the Voyager, a new year's celebration curated by DreamBait.
Voyager NYE is an annual celebration of what it means to be alive. Inspired by the story of the twin Voyager space probes sent out in the galaxy by NASA in the 70s, our annual New Years event imagines a foreign world come alive with the cumulative inspiration of all mankind. The Canvas Chicago team transforms a familiar venue into an otherworldly space, bringing together artists, makers and creative communities from across Chicago to hail in the new year.
For our 2015 installation, our team made over Chop Shop Chicago as a watery ice planet teaming with bioluminescent marine life, impossible geometry and monstrous, shifting glaciers. Teaming up with DRMBT, Stoptime 341, Galexy Design, Synergeo Domes, Era Galleries, Remix Project, Them Flavors, and a host of talented artists, set designers and dancers, the Voyager created a stunning environment to host Flamingosis, Esta. and Tokimonsta.

The ACTual Show is an annual concert produced by Grood Music exploring the relationships between live musical performance, and programmatic theatrical elements. For the 2014 installation, partnering with DRMBT and Canvas Chicago, Grood executed a musical performance in which all lighting and video elements have an expressive factor controlled by the performers on stage. This production was hosted by Canvas Chicago, and utilized a 5 projector full room video mapping.
Combining the lyricism and timbral variety of a bowed instrument with the infinite potential of a computer sampling component, this collaboration explores the real time process of live looping virtual and analog instruments.
Through improvised composition and digital manipulation, elaborate textures develop from minimal soundscapes and evolving beats.

YokoPhono features the manipulated audio of Drone Baez (Frank Van Duerm) and DrmBt (Vincent Naples).
Hazy euphoria succumbs to utter hopelessness as sounds you once loved are mangled beyond all recognition. Fueled by the lifeless binary of what used to be your favorite song, Chicago’s Drone Baez and DrmBt repurpose and misappropriate dusty classics, found sound and ambient noise over a bed of glitchy beats and granular pads.
Drone Baez utilizes an analog synth w/ copper touchplates, a digital synth and three hacked Nintendo DS units.
DrmBt performs with synths/guitars, samplers, and modular tone generation.

DrmBt is the production of Chicago based producer/composer/instrumentalist Vincent Theodore. Designed as a vehicle for ambient guitar performance, computer based sound design and tone collage, Rubato is an improvised live set of loop-based guitar music. Occasionally joined by musicians and visual artists, DrmBt embraces an ambient aesthetic of texture based improvisation that draws inspiration from the worlds of jazz and contemporary classical music, post modern philosophies on sound and art, and an ever evolving exploration of technology and the studio as a source of innovation.
"Rubato" is a multi-movement suite of minimal guitar drones and loops performed and recorded live in October of 2010 at Shivaree Studios.
Summer Love is the second single from Rare Form, a long playing exploration of sound, technology and our modern relationships to them and to each other.
The accompanying video is a production by DrmBt utilizing a process called Data Moshing to obfuscate the acts of love and lust. An impressionistic melding of flesh and egos paints a jarring narrative, as graphic acts are abstracted just beyond intelligibility.
Recorded during regular improvisatory sessions between 2005 and 2008, Aphid is the collaborative efforts of:
Vincent Theodore: guitars/looping
Brian Thomas: bass, pedals
Ryan "Catfish" Chindlund: drums/percussion/electronics
